用在比较级里面的，大部分形容词都可以用+er的形式来得到比较级，或+est的形式得到最高级比如，我比他矮， short---shorter----shortest, i am shorter than he is. 或i am the shortest of all the students.但有些词不能这样构成比较级和最高级，就需要借助less， least 或者more， most，例如：this story is more interesting than that one. 或that story is less interesting than this one.this story is the least interesting one. 或that stroy is the most interesting one.
