商务英语类型简单,行文格式有相应的固定格式,商务英语从体裁上可分为一般消息、简报、报告、评论、合同、信函等类型。以最常用的信函为例,行文顺序如下:信头;编号和日期;封内地址;事由;称呼;正文;结尾语;签名;附件。经常阅读的商务英语报告也有它的基本模式:摘要;标题;导言;材料收集方法;调查结果;结论;建议;附录等。
商务英语涉及营销学、金融学、会计学和管理学等热门领域,行业覆盖广泛,随着全球化的发展,不仅传统行业,高技术领域国际商务交流也是日新月恒。
2 商务英语的翻译技巧
语言与文化之间有着紧密的联系,翻译是转化两种语言、两种文化的桥梁。译者想要提高自身的翻译水平,需要提高掌握语言的能力,还要提升自身文化修养。对于商务翻译者来说,由于商务英语的以上特点,因此要求译者不断提升专业水平,扩大中英文阅读量、同时也要掌握一些翻译技巧才能有效提升商业英语的翻译效率。
2.1灵活掌握英语词汇的翻译
商务英语翻译过程中,灵活掌握词汇的增减是很重要的一项翻译技巧,要根据原文上下文意思、中文的逻辑关系以及译文语言句法特点和表达习惯。“增词”可以弥补翻译中原文中缺失的含义,完善译文的结构和修辞手段,解释原文中的文化因素和背景。而“减词”是保证原文语义的完整,删除一些在译文中多余甚至影响表达的词语,使得译文简洁、流畅。
例1.A stock market bubble requires the cooperation of everyone.
译文:股市泡沫需要人人参与才能产生。 例2.We assure you of our prompt attention to this matter.
译文:我方(……)保证(……)立即处理此事。[1]
2.2对特殊词句意译
针对商务英语翻译中的特殊词和短句,有时难以找到贴切的词义,如生搬硬套,译文往往语意不清,甚至导致误解。在这种情况下,译者应根据该词固有基本含义出发,进一步加以转换,已达到上下文准确流畅。
例3. Sometimes joint ventures don’t success because
interpersonal relationships become unglue and/or the business can’t be made profitable.
译文:有时候,合资企业之所以不成功,是因为“人际”关系不和睦,或是因为企业不盈利,或两者兼而有之。
2.3注重原文和译文的信息对等
在商务英语翻译中,由于各国文化不同,语言转换过程中文化信息的丢失、扭曲常常发生,若忽略了原文的风格信息,不仅会使译文信息大量流失,而且使译文不得体。当代翻译理论奠基人尤金.奈达(Eugene A Nida)提出的“功能对等翻译理论”强调译文和原文应在语言的功能上对等,而不是在语言形式上对应。
虽然不同的国家之间有许多这样那样的差异,但作为商务英语的译者应该着眼于原文与译文在信息内容、风格、文化、社会因素等诸多方面达到对等,设法将原语中的这些信息最大限度地传递到译文中去,翻译过程中尽量保持作者原意。如下例所示,如果不了解日本政治经济情况,将diet member翻译为“节食党员”就会与原意大相径庭,闹出笑话。
例4. A Japanese diet member from the Liberal Democratic Party discussed with a Chinese trading delegation yesterday about the future cooperation.[2]
译文:一个日本自民党议员昨天和中国贸易团讨论了今后合作事宜。
2.4专业用词准确
英文翻译由于文体不同,其侧重点也有所不同。商务英语翻译作为专业英语翻译的重要分支,最基本的任务不是转换,而是传达原作者的意思。刘法公先生提出的“忠诚、准确、统一”更适合商务英语的翻译特性。翻译过程中,应熟练掌握专业术语,做到“地道、准确、专业”。特别是商务英语中贸易、合同、法律、保险、金融等领域的专业术语翻译不能意译。
例5. We wish you will give us a competitive price and we would rather have your CIF price than FOB prices.
译文:我方希望你方能够报给我方一个较有竞争力的价格,并且希望报给我们到岸价格,而不是离岸价格。
3 结语
综上所述,商务英语作为专业英语的重要分支,看似简单实则不易。商务英语不单是语言的转化,也是词义、信息、内容的转化,更是文化信息的沟通与交流。作为商务英语的译者除了原作所涉及的语言知识、背景知识和专业知识外,其他相关方面的知识更是多多益善。在翻译的过程中,应遵循一定翻译原则,认真仔细、一丝不苟,使原文的信息或内容尽可能完整地在译文中展现。完成译文后,应对照原文,从整体和细节两个方面来核对译文,避免因翻译失误给国家、企业、个人造成重大经济损失。
剑桥商务英语(Cambridge Business English Certificate):
简称为BEC考试,是英国剑桥大学考试委员会专门为非英语母语国家的人员进行国际商务活动需要而设计的。该证书由于其颁发机构的权威性,在欧洲大多数国家的商业企业部门获得认可,作为确认证书持有者英语能力证明的首选证书。也是在所有举办该项考试的国家和地区求职的“通行证”。在一些国家,许多大学要求获得BEC3(第三级)证书者才能获得工商管理硕士(MBA)学位或参加学位课程学习。
BEC考试特点:
1. BEC考试报名不受年龄、性别、职业、地区、学历等限制,任何人(包括学生、待业人员等)均可持本人身份证到当地考点报名。
2. BEC考试测试考生在听、说、读、写四个方面的语言交际能力,着重考察学生的应用能力与接受能力,并对考生的能力概况做出较全面、客观的评价。
3. BEC考试分为三级,BEC1为初级语言水平考试,难度相当于我国大学英语四级,就剑桥英语考试系列来说,它介于入门英语考试(Key English Test)和初级英语考试(Preliminary English Test)之间;BEC2介于我国大学英语四、六级之间,相当于剑桥第一证书英语考试(First Certificate in English);BEC3介于我国大学英语六级和英语专业八级之间,相当于剑桥熟练英语证书考试(Certificate of Proficiency in English)。
BEC高级(BEC3)考试:
1. 考试同样分为四个部分(阅读,60分钟;写作,70分钟;听力,40分钟左右;口语16分钟);即总时间为166分钟左右(2.5小时)
2. 四部分总分为120分,每部分为30分,考生的登记以4部分所得的总分为基础,并不需要所有的四分试卷都达到令人满意的水平才能通过考试。
3. 分数分为5档,A(优秀),B(优良),C(及格),D、E(不及格)
4. BEC考试所使用的材料尽可能属于真实事件中的节选,因此不存在偏见或者其他个性因素。
