美式：March 29, 1983 读作 March the twenty-ninth, nineteen eighty-three

英式：29 March, 1983 读作 the twenty-ninth of March, nineteen eighty-three

言下之意，前者为美国英语，后者为英国英语，彼此天各一方，泾渭分明。上述观点在不少辞书中所见雷同。

诚然，关于年月日的英语写法与读法，英国人和美国人的习惯不尽一致，需要引起注意。但我们认为，类似《教参》这种划一而定的说法似乎失之偏颇，未必完全符合语言实际。

现就本人一管之见试作阐述，以求教于大方之家，兼与中学英语教材编者商榷。

一、在英国英语中，通常可有两种表达法。即

(以“1988年5月2日”为例)

1. 写法：(the) 2(nd) May, 1988

读法：the second of May, nineteen eighty-eight

2. 写法：May (the) 2(nd), 1988

读法：May the second, nineteen eighty-eight

注意：

1)写法中，日期与月份之间不可加逗号。

2)写法中，年份前的逗号可以省略。

3)写法中，代表日期的序数词词尾(-st，-nd, -rd或-th )均可省略。

4)写法中，序数词前的定冠词the，一般可省略(尤其是以序数词开头的场合);但在读法中，该定冠词则不省略。

二、在美国英语中，通常只采用一种表达法。即

(以“1988年5月2日”为例)

写法：May 2(nd), 1988

读法：May second, nineteen eighty-eight

注意：

1)写法中，日期与月份之间不可加逗号。

2)写法中，年份前的逗号可以省略。

3)写法中，代表日期的序数词词尾(-st，-nd, -rd或-th )均可省略。

4)写法中，序数词前的定冠词the，一般可省略;在读法中，该定冠词一般亦省略。

三、无论英国英语或美国英语，在需要突出年月日的场合(尤其是在正式文件中)，均可采用以下表达法。即

(以“1988年5月2日”为例)

写法：the second (day) of May, in the year (of) 1988

读法：the second (day) of May, in the year (of) nineteen eighty-eight

五、书写时，还可以完全采用数字表示。这时，英国英语与美国英语在表达上大相径庭。

即

(以“1988年5月2日”为例)

英国式：2. 5. 88;2-5-88;2 / 5 / 88

美国式：5. 2. 88;5-2-88;5 / 2 / 88

对比以上可以清楚看出，两种表达式存在严重差异，即在月份和日期方面完全颠倒。因此，在用纯数字模式的场合，极易产生混淆。

六、为避免书写时由上述方面的差异所带来的混淆，近来有人主张，在纯数字模式下，月份统一采用罗马数字表示。即

(以“1988年5月2日”为例)

英国式：2. Ⅴ. 88;2-Ⅴ-88;2 / Ⅴ/ 88

美国式：Ⅴ. 2. 88;Ⅴ-2-88;Ⅴ/ 2 / 88

七、不论英国英语或美国英语，有时出于需要，在年月日表达的同时标明“星期几”，按习惯应遵循“„星期‟在前，„年月日‟在后”的原则。比如，不能说：

(以“1988年5月2日星期一”为例)

*May (the) 2(nd), 1988, Monday

而应说：

Monday, May (the) 2(nd), 1988

八、不论英国英语或美国英语，书写时，月份还常用缩略式(May除外)。即

January ~ Jan. / Jan (一月)

February ~ Feb. / Feb (二月)

March ~ Mar. / Mar (三月)

April ~ Apr. / Apr (四月)

May (五月)

June ~ Jun. / Jun (六月)

July ~ Jul. / Jul (七月)

August ~ /`Aug. / Aug (八月)

September ~ Sept. / Sep. / Sep (九月)

October ~ Oct. / Oct (十月)

November ~ Nov. / Nov (十一月)

December ~ Dec. / Dec (十二月)

以上，缩略式中的圆点号可以省略。

上述观点，可从若干权威性的惯用法辞书中寻得基本佐证，如英国Michael Swan的Practical English Usage (Oxford University Press, 1980)以及我国葛传槼的《英语惯用法词典》(时代出版社，1963，新修订本)等著作中都有相关说明(详见前书§168;后书p.59)。 最后，附带提醒一下，在年月日的表达方面，所谓的英国英语与美国英语之间，实际应用

中并无清晰严格的界限，不少人似乎更乐于随心所欲，投其所好。

在英语中表达年月日的顺序为月+日+年，日和年之间需用逗号隔开，如2003年8月2日用英语表达就是August,2nd,2003。也可以用日+月+年来表示；如2003年5月10日用英语表达就是10th,May,2003。

英语日期前介词的使用：若指在哪一年或哪一月，则用介词in，若具体到某一天，则需用介词on。如：

1、She was born in 1989.

她出生于1989年。

2、She was born in August.

她出生于8月。

3、She was born in August 1989.

她出生于1989年8月。

4、She was born on 2nd August,1989.

她出生于1989年8月2日。

英文日期的写法：

first第一、second第二、third第三、fourth第四、fifth第五、sixth第六、seventh第七、eighth第八、ninth第九、tenth第十、eleventh第十一、twelfth第十二、thirteenth第十三、fourteenth第十四、twentieth第二十、thirtieth第三十。

这种第几的排序表达方式有时候就用在日期的上面，写一个阿拉伯数字，右上方再写一个英语第几的最后两个字母。其实只有1~3数字排序的最后两个字母是有变化的，而4以后都是th结尾，所以只要记住first第一→末尾分别是st、second第二→nd、third第三→rd，而4以后都只要写th即可。

用英语表达年月日的顺序：

1、月\日\年

例：2002年1月17日

写作：January 17(th), 2002或January seventeenth, 2002（日和年之间需用逗号隔开）

2、日\月\年

例：2002年1月17日

二、日期书写：

用序数词表示：

例：十月一日 写作：October 1, October 1st, 1 October, 1st October, (the) 1st of October等，其中的October都可以写成缩写形式Oct.

读作：October the first或the first of October

1、所有的时间都可以用“小时 + 分钟”直接读：

2、如果所表述的时间在半小时之内，可以用“分钟 + past + 小时”：

这是复制的，但是我绝对认同：日期方面，美英英语的表达方式是有差别的。以日为先，月份为后，此为英国式；美国式则与此相反，以月为先，日期则在后。如一九九六年三月二日的写法： 2nd March, 1996（英） March 2, 1996（美） 在美式的写法中，1st, 2nd, 3rd的st, nd, rd是不使用的。由于日期书面表达不同，读法也不一样。如1987年4月20日，英式的写法是20th April, 1987，读成the twentieth of April, nineteen eighty-seven；美式的表达是April 20, 1987，则读成April the twentieth, nineteen eighty-seven。同样，全部用数字表达日期时，英美也有差别。1998年5月6日按照英国式应写成6/5/98，而按照美国式应写成5/6/98；01.08.1998是英国式的1998年8月1日，按照美国的表达方式却是1998年1月8日，美国的1998年8月1日应写成08，01，1998。
