Are you, or have you been, highly paid for your work? For USCIS, pay means, essentially, annual salary (the most readily comparable thing. The sale of a company is an unusual event, and — though it is not strictly what USCIS means by high compensation — we do argue, especially when the number is high, the personal proceeds as part of such compensation). High pay means that — along the dimensions of position/title, and/or industry, and/or geography — you are in the top 10%, and ideally, well into the top 5%, of your “cohort.” If you know or believe that — apart from the sale — you are or were highly paid for your work, please give me some cursory details, and I will give you further guidance
2-3 letters — from individuals reasonably prominent or accomplished in some way, and believably familiar with your work in your field — attesting in concrete and credible detail to both the originality* and the importance** of your work in your field. You may approach these letters from, really, any angle you like; but to the extent possible — particularly in situations where you have worked in teams or groups — you must be sure to emphasize the originality and importance of your own work. That is to say — again, to the extent possible — your own work must identifiably and specifically stand out.
(Note: If you cannot adequately show both originality and importance, then these letters are not needed, as they will be ineffective)
