我有第三册的!!Lesson1 A puma at largePumas are large, cat-like animals which are found in America. When reports came into London Zoo that a wild puma had been spotted forty-five miles (to) south of London, they were not taken seriously. However, as the evidence began to accumulate, experts from the Zoo felt obliged to investigate, for the des criptions given by people who claimed宣称 to have seen the puma were extraordinarily similar. The hunt for the puma began in a small village where a woman picking blackberries saw ‘a large cat’ only five yards away from her. It immediately ran away when she saw it, and experts confirmed that a puma will not attack a human being unless it is cornered. The search proved difficult, for the puma was often observed观察 at one place in the morning and at another place twenty miles away in the evening. Wherever it went, it left behind it a trail of dead deer and small animals like rabbits it. Paw prints were seen in a number of places and puma fur was found clinging to bushes. Several people complained of about ‘cat-like noises’ at night and a businessman on a fishing trip saw the puma up a tree. The experts were now fully convinced that the animal was a puma, but where had it come from? As no pumas had been reported missing from any zoo in the country, this one must have been in the possession of a private collector and somehow managed成功 to escape. The hunt went on for several weeks, but the puma was not caught. It is disturbing to think that a dangerous wild animal is still at large in the quiet countryside. The big clock which used to strike the hours day and night was damaged many years ago and has been silent ever since. One night, however, our vicar woke up with s start: the clock was striking the hours! Looking at his watch, he saw that it was one o’clock, but the bell struck thirteen times before it stopped. Armed with a torch, the vicar went up into the clock tower to see what was going on. In the torchlight, he caught sight of a figure whom he immediately recognized as Bill Wilkins, our local grocer. 同位语‘Whatever are you doing up here Bill?’ asked the vicar in surprise.‘I’m trying to repair the bell,’ answered Bill. ‘I’ve been coming up here night after night for weeks now. You see, I was hoping to give you a surprise.’‘You certainly did give me a surprise!’ said the vicar. ‘You’ve probably woken up everyone in the village as well. Still, I’m glad the bell is working again.’‘That’s the trouble, vicar,’ answered Bill. ‘It’s working all right, but I’m afraid that at one o’clock it will strike thirteen times and there’s nothing I can do about it.’‘We’ll get used to that, Bill,’ said the vicar. ‘Thirteen is not as good as one, but it’s better than nothing. An American team explored a temple which stands in an ancient city on the promontory of Ayia Irini. The city at one time must have been prosperous, for it enjoyed a high level of civilization. Houses - often three storeys high - were built of stone. They had large rooms with beautifully decorated walls. The city was even equipped with a drainage system, for a great many clay pipes were found beneath the narrow streets. The temple which the archaeologists explored was used as a place of worship(朝圣之地) from the fifteenth century B.C. until Roman times. In the most sacred room of the temple, clay fragments of fifteen statues were found. Each of these represented a goddess and had, at one time, been painted. The body of one statue was found among remains dating from the fifteenth century B.C. Its missing head happened to be among remains of the fifth century B.C. This head must have been found in Classical times and carefully preserved. It was very old and precious even then. When the archaeologists reconstructed the fragments, they were amazed to find that the goddess turned out to be a very modern-looking woman. She stood (was) three feet high and her hands rested on her hips. She was wearing a full-length skirt which swept the ground. Despite her great age, she was very graceful indeed, but, so far到目前为止, the archaeologists have been unable to discover her identity.New words and expressionsgoddess Notes on the textl Tips for listening听力方法1.concentration集中2.Catch key words (n,v)3.skip 跳词4.forget5.crazy English简短笔记(三字母内)l God 上帝god 男神she-tiger 母老虎goddesswoman-teacherfemalel arch-aeolog-ist古的 人l explore 探索(任何)├explode 爆炸├expect 以为(期望)├expedition 探险├employ 雇佣└employee 被雇佣explore ┌outer space ├possibilities可能性 └ancient temple古庙l prosperous修饰经济├wealth 富有的├abundant 充足的├flourishing 兴旺的├thriving 兴隆的├booming 火的迅猛发展的└adequate 充足的l Beijing enjoys a high level of civilizationl worship(非理性)├admire 敬佩├adore 爱戴└respect 尊敬l 代替some time ago:├a head of time提前├at one time曾几何时├once曾经├at a time 一次├each time每一次├for the time being暂时└I quit the job for the time beingThe river is 3000 meters long.l 习语1.Leave me alone. 烦着呢2.It’s almost done. 快完了3.Move your ass. 让开4.Piss off! ≈Get lost. 5.He burns when he sings 6.See ya = see you later7.We got no ties.

1、To look up the social hierarchy and not see anyone at the top is an extremely stressful position for companies to be in.“参照社交等级制度,如果最高位置空缺,会让公司处于非常有压力的境地。2、Many people have to look up the meaning of this word in the dictionary.这个词的意思很多人都要查字典才知道。3、Finally, look up the result in$ payouts.最后,在$payouts中查找结果。

Have you a sister? / Do you have a sister? have当“拥有”讲时,可用于所有一般时态,却不能用于进行时态。 I have my lunch at twelve every day. I don't have my lunch at twelve every day. Do you have your lunch at twelve every day? have/has 实义动词,有时可以代替一些普通动词,如吃、喝、跳、游泳等 eat one's lunch/have one's lunch;take/have some medicine;have a swim;have a chat(talk/walk);have a rest;have/ take a break;have a cup of coffee;eat one's lunch/have one's lunch 3、have可以作为助动词,其一,用于现在完成时。 have/has/haven't/hasn't. I have been to H.K.. She has been to U.S.A.. 4、have(have got)常与表示疼痛和疾病的名词连用。 ① 有的前面要加不定冠词,有些可加可不加不定冠词 have a cold;have (a) backache/tomach ache/toothache ② 复数形式的疾病名称前面不用冠,如measles(麻疹),mumps(流行性腮腺炎),shingles(带子状疱疹) Most children are in bed with mumps. ③ 被认为不可数的疾病名称前面不用冠词,如flu(流行性感冒),gout(痛风),hepatitis(肝炎) I was in bed with flu for ten days. the也可以与flu,measles和mumps等词连用 He’s got the flu/the measles/the mumps. 2009-1-10 23:01 回复 锦清 183位粉丝 84楼[课文] LADY: I want some envelopes, please.
