俚语就是美国人生活里常用的语言，和大家学校里学的英语很不一样。其实中文里也有很多俚语如：哇塞、当了、不靠铺、绝倒、纯爷们儿，这类的语言都是学校里不会教的，因为他们不够正式。俚语是学校里不教的“非正式”语言那么为什么有俚语呢？俚语可以让说话变得更“生动”更“流利”。俚语比喻一般比较“夸张”，所以很适合用来表达自己的心情和想法。俚语因为比较夸张，可以让你的语言变得更“生动”、“流利”。什么时候可以用俚语呢？要说俚语在什么场合“适用”，一般来说，俚语适用于“非正式”的“社交”场合。但是你的公司单位里有老外，他们在你的面前用俚语来表达，那我们就得先看看说话的人是谁了。外国上司，外国上司使用俚语有两个可能，其中一个可能就是他是一个不拘小节的人，说话直来直往，要不就是他在说话的时候利用俚语来帮助他和他的下属拉近距离。俚语适用于非正式的社交场合，一般会用在身份平等的人身上。如果上级喜欢用俚语，那你也可以“适当”的用一些。和上司说话，他用俚语你也可以“适度”的用，但是千万不要模仿你上司的语气，不然你下面的人会想“你算老几啊？”，给老大听到，他可能会想“你和我说话的语气一样，难道你想要我的位子？”为什么俚语可以拉近彼此的距离呢？这主要是因为俚语包含很多“夸张”的成分。当你说“我想你”对方可能感觉不到你到底有多想他，但是当你说“我想死你了”这“夸张”的表达就能将你的情感“充分”同时“生动”的表达出来。让我们来看看一则百微啤酒（Budweiser）的广告：两个大男人（美国黑人）在电话上聊天，A（男）对B（男）说：Whaaasup？（What’sup的简化版，意思是在干什么？），B也回答说：Whaasu？（B回答得比A更夸张），两个人的距离就被拉近了。
