韦氏词典编辑出版商美国韦氏出版公司11月30日宣布，英文单词“大流行”(pandemic)被评为2020年度词汇。
韦氏特约编辑皮特·索科洛夫斯基告诉美联社记者：“这可能不算大吃一惊。通常大新闻会有一个专业词汇与之关联，‘大流行’现在已经从专业词汇变成了常用词。未来我们提到这段时期，大概会用这个词。”

在韦氏的年度词汇榜单中，疫情相关词汇还有“2019冠状病毒”、“隔离”、“无症状”这些关键字眼。此外，美国篮球明星科比·布莱恩特和自由派大法官露丝·巴德·金斯伯格的离世让“曼巴”、“偶像”也入选这份榜单。
