1、place用作动词的基本意思是“将(某物)置于某处”“将(某物)放在应放之处”，引申可表示“安排”“使(某人)处于某处境或环境”，还可表示“记住”“凭记忆或经验辨认”“确定名次”“投资”“发订单，打赌”等。
2、place表示“确定名次”时，在英国指“(赛马等比赛的)前三名”。
place， locality这两个词的共同意思是“地点”。其区别在于：
1、locality常表示事件发生处； place既可指较笼统的范围，又可指具体的某一地点或位置。例如：
It was the locality of the crime。这就是犯罪现场。
