滑翔伞之能够达到滑翔与滞空目的，其中最主要的理论是空气动力学（即滑翔伞上层与下层长度不同，当有前进速度时，空气流经滑翔伞上下表面，在不同长度的面上会产生不同的压力差，压力大的一面会往压力小的一面推挤）。
