英语和中文并不是一一对应的，很多词（尤其是历史比较长，和中国文化密切相关的词）都没有准确的英文对应。执念这个词我曾经和一个美国朋友讨论过，最终也没有答案。下面是我个人理解：a persistent and unchangeable mind一个词的话：obsession（webster dictionary解释：: a persistent disturbing preoccupation with an often unreasonable idea or feeling）不过这个词更偏重对某事痴迷，着魔，感觉和执念还是不太一样。坐等高人给出更好的答案吧。
