A woman named Emily renewing her driver's license atthe County Clerk's office was asked by the womanrecorder to state her occupation. She hesitated, uncertain how to classify herself. "What I mean is,"explained the recorder, "do you have a job, or are youjust a ...
"Of course I have a job," snapped Emily.
"We don't list 'mother' as an occupation ... 'Housewife'covers it," said the recorder emphatically.“我们这里不把‘母亲’看成是一个职业……‘家庭主妇’就可以了。”
I forgot all about her story until one day I found myselfin the same situation, this time at our own Town Hall. The Clerk was obviously a career woman, poised, efficient, and possessed of a high sounding title like, "Official Interrogator" or "Town Registrar." "What is youroccupation?" she probed.
What made me say it, I do not know ... The words simplypopped out. "I'm a Research Associate in the field ofChild Development and Human Relations."
The clerk paused, ballpoint pen frozen in midair, andlooked up as though she had not heard right.
I repeated the title slowly, emphasizing the mostsignificant words. Then I stared with wonder as mypronouncement was written in bold, black ink on theofficial questionnaire.
"Might I ask," said the clerk with new interest, "just whatyou do in your field?"“我能不能问一下,”这名办事员好奇地问,“你在这个领域具体做什么?”
Coolly, without any trace of fluster in my voice, I heardmyself reply, "I have a continuing program of research, (what mother doesn't), in the laboratory and in the field, (normally I would have said indoors and out). I'm workingfor my Masters, (the whole darned family), and alreadyhave four credits, (all daughters). Of course, the job isone of the most demanding in the humanities, (anymother care to disagree?) and I often work 14 hours aday, (24 is more like it). But the job is more challengingthan most run-of-the-mill careers and the rewards aremore of a satisfaction rather than just money."
There was an increasing note of respect in the clerk'svoice as she completed the form, stood up, andpersonally ushered me to the door.
As I drove into our driveway, buoyed up by myglamorous new career, I was greeted by my labassistants - ages 13, 7, and 3. Upstairs I could hear ournew experimental model, (a 6 month old baby), in thechild-development program, testing out a new vocalpattern.
I felt triumphant! I had scored a beat on bureaucracy! And I had gone on the official records as someone moredistinguished and indispensable to mankind than"just another mother."
Motherhood ... What a glorious career! Especially whenthere's a title on the door.
Does this make grandmothers "Senior ResearchAssociates in the field of Child Development and HumanRelations" and great grandmothers "Executive SeniorResearch Associates"? I think so!!!
I also think it makes Aunts "Associate ResearchAssistants".
Dufficulties arise in the lives of us all.
What is most important is dealing with the hard times, coping with the changes, and getting through to theother side where the sun is still shining just for you.

A friend walks in when the rest of the world walks out.
Sometimes in life,
You find a special friend;
Someone who changes your life just by being part of it.
Someone who makes you laugh until you can't stop;
Someone who makes you believe that there really isgood in the world.
Someone who convinces you that there really is anunlocked door just waiting for you to open it.
This is Forever Friendship.
When you're down,
and the world seems dark and empty,
Your forever friend lifts you up in spirits and makes thatdark and empty world suddenly seem bright and full.
Your forever friend gets you through the hard times, thesad times, and the confused times.
If you turn and walk away,
Your forever friend follows.
If you lose your way,
Your forever friend guides you and cheers you on.
Your forever friend holds your hand and tells you thateverything is going to be okay.
And if you find such a friend,
You feel happy and complete,
Because you need not worry.

6. There are still many problems of environmental protection in recent years. One of the problems is the serious pollution of air, water and soil. To protect the environment, governments of many countries have done lot. Laws have been used to control air pollution, to protect the forest and sea resources. Although governments are playing important parts in the environmental protection today, I think much more should be done.In my opinion, to protect environment, the government must take even more other measures. First, it should let people fully realize the importance of environmental protection through education. Second, much more efforts should be made to put the one-child policy into practice, because more people means more pollution. Finally, those who destroy the environment should be punished. We should let people know that destroying environment means destroying mankind themselves.7. It takes us only an hour to do sports, so we hardly have any time to watch TV.We feel tired because of the pressure of examinations and the high expectations from the parents.I write this letter only to wish that you could have the teachers give us less homework so that we could have enough time to do what we want. In my opinion, the result of the examinations is not so important to us. We teenagers are eager to play and enjoy ourselves.I’m looking forward to your good news. We, the football fans in our class, have been looking forward to watching it. We talked about the match a lot during the break. We were so excited that I was still thinking about it in class. That’s my native village place. It has an area of 53 square kilometers. A small brook runs through the village. On the banks of the brook grow a lot of green trees which have big branches and beautiful leaves. If you stand under them, you can’t see the sky. Several small pools are dotted among the village with all kinds of fishes swimming in them. At a little distance from the north, there rises a hill covered with wonderful trees and green grass in the fields and it looks like a beautiful garden. My native village has a population of more than one thousand. 80% of them are peasants, all of whom are busy with their work in the field during spring, summer, and autumn. They often watch TV, go to cinema, and play in the club. People in my village lead a happy life.15.The Teacher-student RelationshipThe relationship between a teacher and students can be good or bad, helpful or harmful. Either way, the relationship can affect for the rest of his life. A good teacher-student relationship will make learning enjoyable and interesting for the student and will make the teacher’s job worthwhile. A bad relationship can discourage the student from learning and make teaching an unpleasant task. The teacher should encourage the student so that he wants to learn. He needs patience and understanding. He must encourage the student without pushing or forcing him. Learning can be fun when the student has the right attitude about it. It is part of the teacher’s job to help develop a good positive attitude in his students.16.Why Do We Go To Universities? Why do we go to universities? Different people have different points of views. Some students may have many colorful dreams and regard universities as the most ideal places. They think that good jobs and higher pays will certainly result from a college education. In fact, the university life often makes them feel disappointed, and after graduation many of them will find the jobs aren’t the ones they like and the pays are not higher than they expected.I think that a university provides good chances for those who are eager to learn more knowledge so that they can serve their motherland better in the future. This is why universities have a strong attention.
