1、定义不同：
有功电量：有功功率就是真正用来做功的功率，电能用于做功被消耗，它们转化为热能、光能、机械能或化学能等，称为有功功率；又叫平均功率。
交流电的瞬时功率不是一个恒定值，功率在一个周期内的平均值叫做有功功率，它是指在电路中电阻部分所消耗的功率，以字母P表示，单位瓦特。有功功率与时间的乘积就是有功电量。
无功电量：电量英文：quantity of electric charge; electrical voltage; electrical amperage 电量表示物体所带电荷的多少。单位时间内通过截面的电量就是电流。
一般来说，电荷的数量叫电量，用符号Q表示，单位是库（仑）(符号是C)．库仑是一个很大的单位． 一个电子的电量e=1.60*10^-19库。实验指出，任何带电粒子所带电量，或者等于电子或质子的电量，或者是它们的电量的整数倍，所以把1.60*10^-19库叫做基元电荷。
2、应用不同：
有功电量：通常来说,生活用电所消耗的是有功电能,用于支持的是电阻型电器;而大多数工业用电是用于支持诸如电动机等旋转型大功率电器,这就需要损耗无功电能,产生无功电量。
无功电量：广大农村用于农副产品加工的各类电机都属于无功电能用户。
3、计算方式不同：
S=P+Q,P=cosφ*S,Q=sinφ*S，而I有功= cosφ*I，I无功= sinφ*I=cos(90-φ)*I。S：视在功率，P：有功功率，Q：无功功率，I：电流，I有功：有功分量电流，I无功：无功分量电流，φ：功率因数角。

电能表上eq的意思是无功电能。e是英文energy的缩写，是电能的意思；q为无功功率，eq表示无功电能。此外，P为有功功率，用ep表示有功电能。电能表是用来测量电能的仪表，又称电度表、火表、千瓦小时表，指测量各种电学量的仪表。
使用电能表时要注意，在低电压和小电流的情况下，电能表可直接接入电路进行测量。在高电压或大电流的情况下，电能表不能直接接入线路，需配合电压互感器或电流互感器使用。

无功电量与有功电量知识拓展：
简单的说 有功电量是由其他能源转换过来的电能量，能够实际做功的，而无功不是。但有功电量不是单独产生的，发电机发出有功的同时一般总伴随着无功的产生。
无功虽然不能做功，但是对系统电压的稳定有非常重要的作用，因此受到重视，电网中有一些设备如调相机专门用来发出无功以稳定电网电压，所以现在电费中包含有有功电量的电费，同时也包含无功电量的电费。
