表示“持续”，是不及物动词，其后常接表示时间的名词或副词（主要是long）；后接名词时根据情况可用介词for（可省去），till,until,into,from…to等。如：

1、The war lasted(for)five years.

战争打了5年。

2、Which type of battery lasts longest？

哪一种电池使用寿命最长？

3、The hot weather will last until September.

炎热的天气将会一直持续到9月。

last作动词的其他用法：

一、有时可用人作主语。如：

He won’t last long in that job—it’s too tough.

他做那工作坚持不了多久——那工作太难了。

二、有时表示“够用（多久）”或“用了（多久）”，此时可带一个间接宾语，但不用于被动语态。如：

1、The food will last(us)(for)three days.

They drank up the last of the wine.

last用作名词的用法：last用作名词时，其复数形式不变。如：

last与week,month,year,Sunday,spring等之类的词连用时，其前一般不用in,on,at等介词。如：

He stopped smoking last week.
