大家很多人都知道薯条的英文是“Chips”，美国人称之为“French Fries”，其实它真正的来源地是比利时。早在1680年的时候，比利时人就开始制作这种薯条了。
在第一次世界大战的时候，美国士兵在比利时吃到了这种薯条，觉得特别美味，从而变得流行起来。但他们想当然的称其为“French”，是因为当时在比利时军队中的通用语言是法语，他们就以为是“法国的薯条”了。
吃薯条注意事项
1、首先薯条油炸时间不宜过长。薯条中的糖类和氨基酸在油炸时会发生化学变化，产生潜在致癌物丙烯酰胺，且随着油炸时间延长、薯条脱水、颜色变深，丙烯酰胺的含量也会大幅上升。
2、尽管目前消费者摄入的丙烯酰胺的量不足以影响健康，但炸薯条的时间应当有所控制。家庭自制炸薯条时以薯条呈柠檬色为宜，金黄色亦可接受，避免炸成黄褐色。
3、薯条不宜多吃，薯条富含淀粉，经过油炸，表层酥脆，但油脂吸附较多，因此是典型的高能量食品。快餐店大包薯条的脂肪含量大约为25克左右，几乎是中国居民膳食指南中成年人一天的植物油推荐摄入量的上限。消费者应当注重膳食平衡，适当控制能量摄入并保持吃动平衡。
