现在的吐鲁番盆地.吐鲁番盆地（英语：Turfan Depression，亦作T'u-lu-p'an p'en-ti或Turpan Pendi）是泰山东部的一个山间盆地，位于天山山地东端。“吐鲁番”是维吾尔语“低地”的意思。它是一个典型的地堑盆地，也是中国地势最低和夏季气温最高的地方。大部分地面在海拔500米以下。20世纪80年代以来，通过营造防护林和加强灌溉管理，风沙已初步控制，生态环境有所改善。火焰山景区将火焰山自然景观与人文景观融为一体，这里建有获上海大世界吉尼斯之最的金箍棒温度计和西游文化及古高昌国文化浓缩于一室的地宫。游客到此，即可尽情地领略火焰山独特的魅力，又可品味西域文化的精髓。火焰山景区是国家AAAA级景区。
