多元化矛盾纠纷解决机制，其主体应是人民调解组织，例如：有治保会、调委会、妇幼会、心连心说事室等，而其他调解机构是人民调解的补充和完善，例如行政调解、司法调解。多元化纠纷解决机制是与传统的“一元化”化解矛盾的方式方法相比较而言的。简单地说，就是由于当前矛盾纠纷主体的多元化、类型的多元化、诉求的多元化，化解矛盾纠纷的思路、方法、措施、途径等也应多元化。多元化纠纷解决机制是指在一个社会中，诉讼和非诉讼纠纷解决方式各以其特定的功能和特点，结成一种互补的、满足社会主体多样需求的程序体系和动态的运作调整系统。多元化纠纷解决机制可以分为两大类：一类是诉讼的方式，一类是诉讼以外的方式，也即所谓的ADR。ADR是英文Alternative Dispute Resolution的缩写，其意为“替代性（或选择性）纠纷解决方式”，
