mess hall 更倾向于特指军队中的食堂，现在大学越来越现代不大合适了，我很少听人管学校食堂叫mess hall的，dinning hall感觉是最保守同时也比较保险的说法，然而倒是听过好多老外提到食堂用cafeteria的（我在北语上学，外国学生比中国学生多），这是更西化的说法，我认为今后用这个词的趋势是会越来越高的，毕竟cafeteria是从西方文化借鉴过来，而中国也正越来越深地与之交融并受其影响。你看现在的食堂也越来越人性化了，cafeteria的叫法还是不错的我认为。看你去的是个什么样的食堂了吧，如果我们过去传统的痕迹比较重就还用dinning hall好了，但如果比较现代人性的就用school cafeteria好了
