一、含义不同
1、 equipment 指设备，装备；器材，如：
processing equipment 工艺设备；electrical equipment 电气设备，电力设备，电器设备。
2、device 装置、计策、设备，可以是抽象的，可以是具体的装置。如：
a water-saving device，节水装置。
3、 facility 是可数名词，常用复数形式。facilities指为一特殊活动或目的所提供的种种便利，包括设备、建筑物和服务。
4、machine 机械，机器；机构；机械般工作的人，如：washing machine ，洗衣机，洗涤机。
5、installment 多指装置，而不是具体的某种设备。如：power installment 动力装置。
6、appliance指器材、器具、器械，如：
household appliances，指家用电器。
二、用法不同
1、 equipment 多指成套的或重型的设备或装备，不光包括电子设备，还包含相关的工具。如 ：
cycling and diving equipment， 指自行车和潜水装备，其中可能包括服装、自行车灯、潜水眼镜、呼吸器等物品。
2、device通常指 小巧的电子装置或设备，如 移动设备 mobile device，听力装置 listening device。
3、facilities常用复数形式，指可供使用的设备或设施。
Our city needs more facilities for recreation.
我们城市需要更多的娱乐设施。
4、machine 多指具体的机器, 如：cutting machine 切割机。
5、installation 一般多指安装完成，可供使用或操作的整套装置或设施。
The building was turned into a secret military installation.
该建筑被改造成了一处秘密军事设施。
6、appliance 侧重指家用机器或设备，尤指家用电器。
He could also learn to use the vacuum cleaner, the washing machine and other household appliances.

三、是否可数名词不同
1、equipment 表示 “特定活动所需的设备、器械”，是不可数名词。 “Equipment” 通常指 “成套的，不只一件的设备”。
a piece of equipment一件设备；
The plant was dismantled of all its equipment and furniture. 这家工厂的设备和家具全被拆除了。
2、“Device” 是可数名词。多指为某一特殊用途或解决某一特定机械问题而设计或改装的精巧的仪器或装置。如：
electrical labour-saving devices around the home

All mobile devices should be switched off during this flight.
请在本次飞行中关闭所有移动设备。
3、facilities，可数名词，常用复数形式，指可供使用的设备或设施。
Medical facilities are being reorganized and upgraded. 正在对医疗设施进行重组和升级。
4、machine 可数名词。
I put the coin in the machine and pulled the lever.

5、installation 可数名词。
The building was turned into a secret military installation.
