拜伦不仅是一位伟大的诗人，而且是一位为自己的理想奋斗了一辈子的勇士。他积极勇敢地参加了革命，参加了希腊民族解放运动，并成为领导人之一。
拜伦是19世纪上半叶伟大的浪漫主义诗人，他强烈支持法国大革命后席卷整个欧洲的民主民族革命，并在一定程度上批判了资本主义社会的弊端。他是欧洲文学的一面光辉旗帜。恩格斯称赞他对现实世界的尖锐讽刺。
