Like a child endlessly asking, we humans, throughout history, have been continually demanding what we desire from nature. We enjoy the comfort and beauty of our furniture, yet we never bother to think about the serious soil erosion caused by deforestation. We take it for granted that we must warm ourselves in winter times, yet we seldom realize the burning away of precious natural resources. We appreciate all the prosperity from the development of modern industry, yet few would give the slightest consideration to the global air and water pollution caused by industrial wastes. Our ruthless exploitation has permanently impaired our mother earth. As we tragically learned from last summer's floods. we cannot continue our carelessness.
Finally, standing here at the threshold of the 21st century, we cannot help thinking of our posterity. Nature is not only the mother of the present generation, but also the mother of the generations to come.
How severely our descendents will criticize us if we leave them a barren and lifeless mother? How much more they will appreciate us if we give them a world of harmony to inherit? Let us start respecting and caring for nature from now on. Let us start the campaign of creating a mutually beneficial relationship between people and nature right from this moment. With this new start, I firmly believe, that our children, and our children's children will live in a brand new age of green trees, clean air, crystal water, blue sky and an even more promising world!
As a correspondent of the qingdao morning news, i visited dr. james gilman, the president of the international committee for marco polo studies in england. in this picture, this is james, and this is me and we are looking at a dragon’s tooth. this is a true story.
65 years ago, james lived in qingdao. then he was only 5 years old. he often visited the aquarium and was fascinated by a creature on display there, which he thought was a dragon. he was afraid of its sharp teeth and wanted one to keep as a treasure.
He kept the tooth for the next 65 years, but the feeling of guilt at having stolen it was there in the background all through his life. it was always on his conscience, and the feeling intensified as he became older. finally he decided to put right his childish error. in XX, he visited qingdao and returned it to the aquarium with his sincere apologies. he received a warm welcome.
When james visited qingdao, i accompanied him all the time and reported on his visit. i was deeply touched by his honesty. it has taught me a lot. i think to err is human. the important thing is to have the courage to admit and correct one’s error.
Honesty is a vital quality of human behaviour. so we should try to keep an honest mind in everything we say and do. i would like to say to all of my friends: let’s be honest people of good moral character.

Good morning teachers and fellow students. Today we would like to introduce a few favorite books to you.
My favorite book is (Italian: Cuore). This is a diary written by an Italian boy Enrico. The diary is about his life and study. It included various touching stories that happened around Enrico, the mottos taught by his parents, as well as the wonderful ten "monthly" stories told by his teacher during the class. Every word in the chapter describes the word "love". From patriotism to friendship, and to the love between parents and child -- really touching.
This novel taught me how to love, and how to learn from love. I really like this book very much. How about you? What is your favorite book?

Everybody knows waste paper and used coke cans are discarded everywhere.
You might have seen plastic bags flying in the sky and getting caught in the trees when the wind blows or maybe you have seen old cans floating in the rivers and polluting the water.
Our environment is the place in which we live, but it is being ruined by us.
There is a story about house and trees.
It is said that a man’s house was surrounded by a lot of trees.
Though the wind was strong, that man could have a good rest under the trees.
How comfortable the life was! One day, that man wanted to enlarge his house, so he cut down all the trees.
Then the autumn came without the protection.
The strong wind blew the roof of the house into the sky.
The whole house was gone with the wind.
What a pity! But that’s the price people have to pay for destroying in the ecology balance.
People shouldn’t be short-sighted.
Protecting the environment is everyone’s task.
As you know, there are four kinds of pollution.
They are air pollution, water pollution, waste pollution and noise pollution.
But what can we do to solve the pollution? I think, firstly, we can make cars that don’t pollute the environment.
We can ask companies to use modern clean technology.
In some big cities, we can limit the number of cars.
Secondly, we can try to use less water and make sure that we do not pollute the water.
We can tell factories that they are not allowed to pour waste water into the lakes and rivers.
Thirdly, we should not throw rubbish in parks and cities.
We can pick up rubbish if we see it.
We can put more rubbish bins in our parks and ci
ities.
Fourthly, we can live far from the noise and make the laws to limit the noise.
The air, water and the whole atmosphere directly influenced our lives, such as the air, people may cough and it will lead to cancer.
So we must try our best to keep the world clean and tidy.
To reach it, I want to put forward three points to everybody---Point 1: don’t spit and liter; Point 2: don’t draw on the wall; Point 3: clean the streets every day.
