肋体向外转为向前的转弯处叫肋角，肋体下缘内面有容神经血管经过的肋沟。肋体前端粗糙，接肋软骨，肋软骨为透明软骨，与胸骨侧缘相关节。
第1肋骨短小而弯曲，头和颈稍低于体，肋体扁，可分为上、下两面和内、外两缘。上面内缘处有前斜角肌附着形成的前斜角肌结节，结节的前、后方各有浅沟，是锁骨下静脉和锁骨下动脉的压迹。
下面无肋沟，前端借肋软骨直接与胸骨相结合。第2肋比第1肋稍长，更近似于一般肋骨。第11、12肋无肋结节、肋颈及肋角，体直而短，末端钝圆，肋软骨终身不骨化。
