当地时间10月4日，英国首相特蕾莎·梅在曼彻斯特举行的保守党年度大会上因嗓子不适，多次中断演讲。而在其进行演讲的过程中还发生了令人尴尬的一幕。在特蕾莎·梅进行演讲过程中，一位议员将一份名为P45的辞职申请递给正在台上演讲的特蕾莎·梅。此外会场布置错漏百出等连串事件令本来严肃的会议顿成闹剧。
据报道，特蕾莎·梅在台上发言时，一名与会人员突破保安防守成功闯上讲台，递上一份假的雇员解雇通知书，并大声说道，“约翰逊让我给你。”此举意在讽刺有声音指特蕾莎·梅欲将英国外交大臣鲍里斯·约翰逊（Boris Johnson）革职的传闻。而当时鲍里斯·约翰逊就坐在台下，场面一度十分尴尬。该男子后被保安带走。
在混乱的场面中，连场内布置也“不合作”，讲台背景上标语的字母部分脱落，把原来严肃的会场变得异常窘迫。
知情人士透露，在特蕾莎·梅结束这场“混乱”的演讲之后，有多达30名英国议员准备签署联名信，要求英国首相特雷莎·梅于今年圣诞节前（12月25日）下台。
英媒讽刺特蕾莎·梅的演讲似“车祸现场”。据报道称，特蕾莎·梅原本希望能够通过此次演讲以及其提出的限制能源价格和为修建议会大厦提供资金支持等政策，重塑自己的首相形象，为保守党赢得支持。不料这一切美好的构想却被一场恶作剧打乱。
