母亲的英文，既是mother，也是mom

但是，这两者之间，却有本质的不同

“mother”一般翻译为“母亲”，正如中文里“母亲”是书面语，“妈妈”是口头语一样，“mother”也是书面语，多用于演讲、作文中。

“mother”更多指的是把孩子生下来的母亲。即“生物学上的母亲”（biological mother），只是陈述事实，不带有感情色彩，强调血缘关系。

它还多用于表示女性长辈，如“grandmother”表示“祖母，奶奶”。

此外，“mother”还可以用作动词和形容词。
