中国近代知名漫画家丰子恺、叶浅予、张乐国近代的漫画家至民国初年首推丰子恺，漫 画(Comic )一词，根据1943年定义 :‘漫画是简笔而注重意义的一种绘画’后，广为现代辞书所沿用增修。例：《国语日报辞典》、《王云五小辞典》皆提到‘漫画为含有讽刺、幽默、教育意义的简笔画’。至于英文漫画名称的说法，笔者归纳如次：（一）Cartoon是卡通的总称（包括漫画及动画）。（二）Caricature是讽刺画，特指肖像漫画（或称似颜漫画）。（三）Comics泛指漫画的总称：包括幽默漫画、单元漫画、连环漫画。（四）Comics Strip指多格漫画或称单元漫画、连续漫画。本文所指称的漫画在泛指英文的Comics总称。就形式上包含单幅漫画、多格漫画、连环漫画。
